Jacob was born with a congenitally dislocated hip. Left untreated, it could cause childhood arthritis resulting in limited movement and chronic pain. Jacob was fit by the Certified Orthotist at the Queen Alexandra Centre with a custom hip abduction brace.
Funding for the Orthotics Program is provided by the Queen Alexandra Foundation. Jacob wore his brace full time for six months. Along with physiotherapy, the brace allowed his hip to develop properly.
The result? Jacob is now an active toddler who plays with his parents and siblings, and rolls, runs, tumbles and laughs with other children at the playground.
